Virtual: The 2024 US Presidential Election: American Democracy in Times of Toxic Polarization

Join Joshua Dyck, Director of the Center for Public Opinion at UMass Lowell for talk about political polling and the 2024 US Presidential Election.

Dr. Dyck will share current polling data and forecasts and discuss the current state of American politics, with the 2024 election as the backdrop. Dr. Dyck will also share insights from his recently published book, The Power of Partisanship (2023, Oxford University Press, with Shanna Pearson-Merkowitz), which Choice has called, “an important cautionary tale, well supported by the authors' evidence. Highly recommended.”

Joshua J. Dyck is Professor and Chair of political science and Director of the Center for Public Opinion (CPO) at the University of Massachusetts Lowell, where he has been on faculty since 2012. He received his bachelor’s degree from Western Washington University and both his master’s and doctoral degrees from the University of Maryland. He is the author of three books and more than two dozen peer-reviewed journal articles. His research and teaching expertise is in American elections, public opinion, voter behavior, direct democracy, and survey research. As Director of UMass Lowell’s Center for Public Opinion, Dyck has lead the center to be nationally recognized:  the CPO was rated the #1 most accurate pollster from 2014-2022 according to RealClearPolitics and was given a top 10 rating by FiveThirtyEight in 2024 for pollster accuracy and transparency.
